Marion County escapes storms

Marion County escaped the brunt of storms that did heavy damage nearby and even killed a woman on the wet side of the state.

Marion County was placed under a tornado warning shortly before 4 a.m. The same storm damaged homes and buildings and injured several people in neighboring Washington Parish.




Chickens to flock downtown

Well, flock on down to Second Street Saturday as chickens and their human friends will be having some light-hearted competition at the new Chicken Fest.



West PTO hosts trunk-or-treat

Children at West Marion Primary School enjoyed a special day of Halloween fun Friday thanks to a host of volunteers.

The second annual Trunk-or-Treat was hosted by the school’s Parent Teacher Organization and featured a variety of families, organizations and first responders with games, candy, food and more.




Woman hurt in rollover

A Sandy Hook woman suffered a severe leg injury in a rollover crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 98 east of Columbia.

Anita Sawin, 58, of Sandy Hook was driving her gray Nissan Versa eastbound on U.S. 98 near Pierce Road, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Travis Luck.
