Hurricane caused damages but no injuries in Columbia
When most Columbians think of hurricanes, Katrina is the first one which comes to mind. But 50 years ago today it was another storm that stuck in people’s minds for many decades to come, Camille.
Columbia aldermen have approved an amended garbage ordinance that will govern trash pickup once the contract with Waste Pro expires Sept. 30.
Mayor Justin McKenzie said he believes the city will be saving money by handling the collection itself.

The Marion County Historical Society will be presenting the Ford’s Encampment Sept. 13 through Sept. 15.
The sixth annual encampment will be located at the John Ford Home in Sandy Hook. The encampment was originally scheduled Feb. 23, but was canceled due to the weather at the time.
The event now will be spread over 3 days.
