The Columbia School board heard-year end statistics at its meeting Tuesday.
Director of Curriculum Dee Dee Randall provided the 2018-19 discipline and attendance report. Overall infractions have dropped for the entire school district. Last year there was a total of 2,648 versus 2,399 this year.

Freedom Fest is fast approaching, and organizers hope to draw 10,000 people downtown for live music, arts and crafts vendors, fireworks and more.
July 6 is the date set aside to celebrate the country’s birthday and Columbia’s bicentennial.

A group of disc golfers agreed to abide by the county’s rules after a 40-minute discussion with District 2 Supervisor Terry Broome, whose district includes the Water Park.
For most U.S. citizens July 4 is the day to celebrate being an American, but for Claudia Davis of Columbia it just might be April 29. That’s when the Mexico native took the oath of allegiance in New Orleans along with 60 others from 40 countries.
Now that she is an official citizen, Davis says she is really excited.
