Business Feature: Need to cool off? Just call Mack’sBy JOSHUA CAMPBELL,
For nearly 25 years, Mack’s Heating & Air has been keeping Marion County cool during the grueling and long Mississippi summers and warm throughout the winter.
“We do mainly residential heating and air repairs and replacements,” owner Johnny Mack Clinton said. “We do some light commercial work. And we also do residential electrical work.”
Mack’s is truly a family-run business with deep roots in the community. Johnny Mack Clinton is joined by his wife, Millie, who handles the day-to-day operations, his son, Johnathan, who works on the business side, and his youngest son, Jarrett, who works alongside his dad on the mechanical side. Mack’s also has two other employees in Richard Robbins and Duwayne Robertson.
One of the biggest reasons Mack’s has had sustainable success is the honesty and reliability it provides its customers.
“He’s always thinking about the customer and doing what’s best for them,” Millie said of Johnny Mack. “If the unit can be repaired and worth repairing, then that’s his goal because he knows it’s better for the customer. If it’s not worth it, he’s going to be honest, too. He’s always been honest and open and works hard to make sure that he’s doing a good job at whatever he’s doing.”
Millie added that the No. 1 daily goal is to have a happy customer base. “We’ve had a few (reviews) lately where people really appreciate that he goes above and beyond on weekends or night to help if he can. Just seeing that they’re satisfied with us and that we’re still here after all these years and still going strong, that’s success to us,” she said. “At the end of the day if they’re happy we’re happy.
“The need of the customer, we prioritize and try to get to them as quick as we can, usually within that day that they call in. We try to get them taken care of quickly.”
Johnny Mack learned his trade working alongside his grandfather, Henry Watts, and has more than 30 years of experience of offering reliable and trustworthy service.
Mack’s commonly uses and sells Carrier products but can also get other brands as well. It does offer financing options as well.
Johnny Mack said adding Freon and changing capacitors are some of the most common services Mack’s provides. The longstanding business also does annual cleaning and service on units.
The family said it’s very thankful for all of its customers, and it appreciates each of them for trusting the Clintons with their air conditioning and electrical needs through the years.
“We are thankful for God's blessings on our business from the very beginning and each day over the 25 years,” Millie added. “We know we wouldn't have made it this long in business without God's blessing and provisions daily. We feel so fortunate to be a part of Columbia, and we love being a part of such a great small town.”
The office at 605 Jackson Ave. is open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and the service crew works from 7 a.m. until. Mack’s can be reached at (601) 731-1910 or macksheatingandair.com.
