Columbia Academy is proud to announce its Homecoming Court that will preside over festivities on Friday, October 2, 2020. The night will conclude with the football game against the Lamar School Raiders at James E. Pope Field. The crowning of the Queen and presentation of her court will be at halftime during the game.
Representing Columbia Academy this year as Homecoming Queen is Maddie Claire Sauls. She is the daughter of Stacy and Jeremy Thornhill of Foxworth and the Late Robby Sauls of Monticello. Maddie Claire’s escort will be Trey Stringer, son of Boe Stringer of the Improve community and Tonya Stringer of Crystal Springs.
Olivia Stewart will serve as Flower Girl to the Queen. She is the daughter of Elise and Ryan Stewart of Oakvale. Crown Bearer for the Queen will be Maddox Holmes. He is the son of Carol and Chase Holmes of Tylertown. At CA, Maddie has been an Honor Roll student while being involved in many activities. She has received numerous awards for her high averages in most of her subject areas. She is a member of the Key Club, National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. Maddie enjoys playing for the Lady Cougar Softball team and cheering as a Varsity Cheerleader. She serves as Co-Captain of the squad this year. Maddie also is a valuable member of the track team where she holds a school record in the triple jump event. In her free time, she enjoys hunting, fishing, and watching movies.
Lexie Taylor has been chosen by the Cougar Football team as this year’s Football Maid. She is the daughter of Kimberly and Mark Mobley and Trish and Matt Taylor of Columbia. Lexie’s escort will be Robert Johnson. Robert is the son of Amy and Chris Johnson of Columbia. Lexie chose Collins Powell as her Flower Girl. She is the daughter of Lindsey and Chaz Powell of the Improve Community. Lexie has been part of the Cougar family since the sixth grade. She has been a Cougar Cheerleader every year. She has been nominated as an NCA All- American Cheerleader during these years. Lexie is an Honor Roll student. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her friends.
Senior Maid is Maggie Hammond. She is the daughter of Jenny Hammond of Foxworth and Perry Hammond of Hattiesburg. Her escort will be Austin Michael Thornhill. Austin is the grandson of Janie and Charles Tolar of Goss. At CA, Maggie is a member of numerous academic clubs, such as Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, and National Honor Society. She enjoys competing with the Quiz Bowl Team. Student Council has also been a part of Maggie’s life while attending CA. She enjoys cheering for the Cougar’s as a Varsity Cheerleader, running with the track team, and playing on the golf team. Maggie enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering at the Animal Shelter in her free time.
The Junior Class elected Myla McLaughlin to represent their class as Junior Maid. She is the daughter of Missy and Jason McLaughlin of Columbia. Myla chose Will Arinder, son of Lisa and Mitchell Arinder of Improve to be her escort. Throughout school, Myla has worked very hard to be an Honor Roll student by maintaining high averages in her classes since the first grade. She is a member of the Key Club and has served on the Student Council. She was a member of the two times State Championship Cross Country Team. During her time on the team, Myla won the Most improved and the Cougar Award. She was elected as a Jr. High Beauty and Wittiest. Myla enjoys helping others during her free time by volunteering with various local organizations.
Representing the Sophomore Class as Sophomore Maid is Lauren McDaniel. She is the daughter of Sandra and Mark McDaniel of Improve. Lauren will be escorted by Cooper Moree, son of Amy and Cary Moree of the Enon Community. Lauren is a member of the Student Council, Key Club, and DECA. She has remained an Honor Roll student while being a member of the Lady Cougar Basketball team, CA Cheer Squad, and Tennis team. She has been chosen Most Dependable, Most Courteous, and Class Favorite by her peers. Lauren was also chosen as Best Offensive Player for the Lady Cougar Basketball team in 2019-2020. Some of Lauren’s favorite activities away from CA are: watersports, traveling, riding horses, and enjoying her family.
This year’s Freshman Maid is Molly Sauls. She is the daughter of Stacy and Jeremy Thornhill of Foxworth and the Late Robby Sauls of Monticello. Molly chose Nick Terry as her escort. Nick is the son of Robin and Daniel Terry of Bunker Hill. Molly has been an Honor Roll student during her years at CA. She has been chosen as Best All Around and Most Talented. During her eighth grade year, Molly was elected Miss Junior High and a Junior High Beauty. She enjoys cheering for the Cougars and is currently serving as the JV Cheer Co- Captain. Molly is a member of the Cougar Track Team and won Best Offensive Player for the softball team. Outside of CA, Molly enjoys hunting and watching television with her family. Homecoming at Columbia Academy is a day full of traditions, school spirit, excitement, and cherished friendships.
Come enjoy this anticipated day on Oct. 2 with us. The first presentation of the court and the pep rally will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the G. G. Flynt Gymnasium. The annual parade will begin at 1 p. m. The parade will begin at the old New Orleans Furniture location on MS Hwy 13-N and proceed through downtown Columbia ending at Friendship Park. At 6:15 P. M., the pre-game festivities will begin on James E. Pope Field. The Columbia Academy Cougars will play host to the Lamar School Raiders. Kick-off will be at 7:00 P. M. Finally, the crowning of the Queen, Maddie Claire Sauls will take place at halftime during the game.
