Officials announce plans for Marion County Courthouse operations

The Marion County Courthouse remains open during normal business hours, but officials are asking to call the office you are needing first before coming in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Chancery Clerk Elisha Moree, Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan and Tax Assessor/Collector Teresa Terrell said in a joint statement Sunday that the majority of courthouse business can be conducted without having to visit the courthouse.

They said courthouse officials are making every attempt to conduct business by phone, email, drop box or mail.

If you call and are instructed to come to the courthouse in person, only the west door entrance (handicap ramp side) is open. All other entrances and the entire second floor, along with public restrooms, are closed.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“We join you in prayer during this difficult time, and we remain committed to serving you,” the three elected officials said.

Numbers include:

Chancery Clerk: 601-736-2691

Circuit Clerk: 601-736-8246

Tax Assessor/Appraiser: 601-736-8256

The state Health Department reported Sunday that confirmed cases of COVID-19 are up to 207 statewide, although Marion County has yet to have a case identified here. However, many businesses and churches have restricted normal operations in response to the request from public health officials to limit gatherings to less than 10 people to halt spread of the virus.
