Mack Grubbs Ford has been taking care of Columbia’s every car need for more than 25 years, from selling new cars to fixing air conditioner units.

The dealership, which has 15 employees, sells both new and used cars, and it’s not limited to just Ford, according to Sales Manager Danny Dixon.

“We sell every kind of used car you can imagine. We have Chevrolets, Fords, Toyotas, Nissan, Jeeps — if we don’t have it here, we can find it for you and get it,” he said.

The salesmen at Mack Grubbs take the time to understand exactly what its customers are looking for and make sure the customer knows every aspect of the vehicle they are looking at. Then they go through the process of establishing payment needs, whether it entails financing through Mack Grubbs, another financial institution or purchasing the vehicle outright.

Dixon said being a hometown dealership where the employees know the customers personally or take the time to get to know the customers is what sets Mack Grubbs apart from other dealers.

“We take care of our customers, and we treat them just like they’re kinfolk,” he said. “We take care of matters before the sale and after the sale. We take pride in going above and beyond for our customers.”

Dixon began his career at the Ford store after working off shore and worked as a salesman before relocating to Jackson. He got into management in Jackson, and a year ago he returned to Columbia to be the new sales manager back where it all began.

Dixon, who grew up in Columbia and said he plans to end his car career here, added that it helps having an already established relationship with a customer because it establishes a trust between buyer and seller. The dealership’s daily goal is to have every customer that comes in leave with a smile on their face.

Even though the dealership sells cars to customers from all over, selling isn’t it all it does. Mack Grubbs Ford also has a full-fledged service department, led by Service Manager Ashley Smith, and anyone can use it regardless of where the vehicle was purchased.

“We do engine work, brakes, air conditioner work, tires, brake pads, change oil — whatever it is you need done we can handle it right here,” Dixon said.

While Mack Grubbs is already heavily involved in the community from sponsoring events such as the halftime toss at local high school football games, the annual rodeo, the Veterans Picnic at the Water Park and local athletic teams, Dixon said the dealership aims to become even more involved moving forward.

“If there’s anything to do with a high school, we always help out because we want to give back to the community. To stay in business for 25 years, you have to stay involved in the community,” he said.

The dealership is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Dixon, who said he had been accustomed to working 15 hour days six days a week, said it’s like having an extra day off and that it allows him to always give 100 percent of his attention to the customer.
