The Columbia-Marion County Public Library is asking for a 2 percent to 3 percent increase in what it receives from the city and county for the upcoming year.

The following marriage license applications were received by the Marion County Circuit Clerk’s Office during the week of July 2:

A driver who allegedly tried to flee local law enforcement didn’t make it very far on Independence Day.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles Vichael Lewis II, 28, of Hattiesburg after blocking him in at the Circle K parking lot.
Slightly less revenue from local sources means a lean budget for the Columbia School District.
At a public hearing June 28, Business Manager Kim Rogers spoke about the numbers for the 2019 budget as compared to 2018. No members of the public attended the hearing.
