The West Marion Trojans’ 2018 season was a tale of two halves. They began the year a perfect 6-0 in non-district play before faltering down the stretch, going 1-4 in Region 8-3A and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

West Marion Band Director Ryan Pippin is leading the 2019-2020 marching band into exile.
“Exile” is the name of the program the band is performing this year. Music will include creation music excerpts from the Rites of Spring and a couple of songs from Coldplay. It is loosely based on the story of Adam and Eve.
Though they are small in numbers, East Marion High School’s band is determined to grow. According to Band Director Orlando Ratliff they have about 25 students playing winds and percussion instruments and about 12 dancers and eight auxiliary members who consists of color guards and majorettes.
To have a successful band program you need family, community and administrative support, Leslie Fortenberry says.
And the Columbia High School band director said she is very proud to say she has all of the above — not only for her personally but also for the entire Wildcats squad.
