A family member of a beating victim is praising the Columbia Police Department for making a quick arrest and asking witnesses to come forward.
Andre L. Griffin, 40, of Columbia was charged with aggravated assault Friday related to the May 3 attack on Greg Fleming, 58, at 921 1/2 Oak Ave. Griffin is out on $10,000 bond.

Big money has not yet rolled into Marion County elections this year as candidates have mostly funded their own operations, according to the first round of campaign finance reports.
The Columbia Police Department now has eight body cameras and is working on a plan to begin using them soon, Chief Michael Kelly told aldermen Tuesday.
Mayor Justin McKenzie asked Kelly to issue a press release once the cameras are in operation to let the public know the city is trying to be transparent.
