Automobiles were new to the world and the Marion County Courthouse had only been completed a few years before A.Z. Toney was born in Foxworth on July 28, 1912.
Toney’s friends and family are set to gather Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. at Duckworth Park to celebrate his 106th birthday. The event will take place in the Community Center.
An employee of the Columbia Walmart Supercenter was arrested and charged with embezzlement last week.
Emily Baker, 23, of Columbia was charged with embezzlement/ entrusted public property/ funds converted for own use by the Columbia Police Department after an investigation led to her arrest on July 16.

Back-to-school shopping will be the order of business this weekend when Mississippi’s sales tax holiday on clothes and shoes is held Friday and Saturday.
