The Columbia school board approved Monday afternoon hiring Perry Central High School football coach Chip Bilderback to lead the Wildcats football program.
Superintendent Jason Harris said in a news release that Bilderback is "one of the top young coaches" in Mississippi.
After losing three of their first four games, including a 37-36 heartbreaker to South Pike before a 17-day break, the Columbia Lady Wildcats bounced back with two crucial wins over the past week.
The East Marion Lady Eagles, meanwhile, dropped back-to-back games after a 3-1 start.
After a long layoff for the Thanksgiving holidays, the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars returned to the court last week, playing three games in six days.
Last Thursday the Lady Cougars steamrolled Pontchartrain Christian 56-12 behind Macey Jones’ game-high 16 points.
The Marion General Hospital Auxiliary is asking for help in decorating its Christmas tree again this year to remember or honor a loved one.
Doris Broom, Hospital Auxiliary president, said the Christmas tree project raises $5 for each of the “Ornaments of Love” that are placed on the tree.
