Katie Broom and her family at 1402 Broad St. are honored to be the recipients of the July Yard of the Month.
“It’s an honor because I do take pride in my yard,” Broom said. “I’ve done everything myself, and I love to keep a neat yard.”
Broom added it was an unexpected honor, and she appreciates being chosen.

A brief meeting was held Monday night to close out the fiscal year for the Marion County School District School Board.
The board approved the following resignations:
• Casey Sullivan Taylor as assistant state literacy coordinator;
• Melissa Taylor as West Marion High School counselor.
Cyclist Randall Lewis of Columbia is set to ride again for charity.
This year’s ride will begin at 1 a.m. Thursday in Columbia and end in New Orleans later that day about 119 miles away.
“I have been riding all over South Mississippi for quite a while,” Lewis said.
