Jobless rate drops

Marion County’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent in August from 6.2 percent in July, although there were actually less employed people in the county in August.

That’s because the labor force fell from 10,330 in July to 10,060 in August, according to numbers the Mississippi Department of Employment Security released this week.



County budget finalized

The Marion County Board of Supervisors heard the final numbers on its 2019-2020 budget Thursday with changes made to reflect the board’s decision not to raise taxes.

County CPA Charlie Prince emphasized department heads must stay on track with their spending for the upcoming fiscal year beginning on Oct. 1.
