Rankin wins yard of month

The November Yard of the Month has been awarded to Cheryl Rankin.

Rankin, who lives on Sumrall Road, has a beautiful, manicured yard. But that wasn’t the case two years ago when she moved back home. Her mother’s health had been failing so the yard wasn’t able to be kept up.

Supervisor, pastor, friend: Newsom plays many leadership roles in Marion County

Calvin Newsom is a well-known and respected leader in Marion County, serving the community from the pulpit and in local government.

The 56-year-old has spent more than two decades on the Marion County Board of Supervisors and pastors John the Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia.





Woman charged with arson

A Columbia woman whose home burned down in September was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with first degree arson and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Angel Thiac, 31, was being held in the Marion County Jail on $20,000 bond as of press deadlines after being arrested by the Columbia Police Department.
