A Columbia native is now a three-time Best-in-Show artist at Jackson State University.
Dorothy Jones Williams is part of the 1976 class of Columbia High School and graduated magna cum laude from Jackson State University on Dec. 6. She is the daughter of Willie Mae Oatis of Columbia.

The total assessed value of property in Marion County fell by about $294,000 in 2019, according to the new tax rolls.
Two tornados on Dec. 16, the strongest one being an EF2, flattened three businesses in the city, including Beal’s Collision Center, and caused damage to other businesses and homes, including tearing the roof off the Columbia-Marion County library. Three people were treated and released at the hospital with injuries from the storm.
