Days before two Columbia men were slated to stand trial for burglaries and other offenses, both pleaded guilty and were sentenced to prison terms by 15th Judicial Circuit Judge Prentiss Harrell.
Demara Collins, aka Demara Franklin, 30, and Myjelious Jackson, 39, are both set to serve a full 10 years.
For more than half a century, Carquest Auto Parts, located at 524 Lumberton Road, has been there for its customers every automotive need.
Carquest has been locally owned by Kenny Breakfield for 14 years and run by General Manager Hoyt Jones.
Costs for disposing of garbage are going up 11 percent for Marion County.
Waste Pro, which has the contract to collect and haul both city and county garbage, has announced cost increases to both entities. The county’s monthly fee per customer is going up from $6.55 to $7.29.

Columbia police had to use tear gas to flush a burglary suspect from under a house late last Friday.
“Patrol got a call about 10 p.m. from 920 Alberta Ave. about a burglary,” CPD Detective Lt. Jonathan Harrison said. “The caller said a kitchen window had been broken out.”
