Bail denied for Peak

Bail was denied Friday afternoon for a Morgantown man who allegedly killed his father late Thursday evening.

Samuel Dathan Peak, 32, appeared before District 1 Justice Court Judge Brandon Rowell for the incident that took place on Carroll Loop in Morgantown.


Unemployment doubles to 11.1%

Marion County lost less jobs than most Mississippi counties in April, with unemployment rising here to 11.1%.

Even though the county’s rate more than doubled from 5.0% in March, Marion rose to the 14th-lowest unemployment rate among Mississippi’s 82 counties in April. It had been the 22nd-lowest in March.

Red Bluff needs to be developed

We don’t judge the masses who have gathered at Red Bluff near Morgantown in recent days. After weeks of being cooped up at home, people need time outdoors for their mental and physical health.

The threat of spreading the coronavirus is far less outdoors than indoors because it can’t survive long outside.
