Unemployment doubles to 11.1%

Marion County lost less jobs than most Mississippi counties in April, with unemployment rising here to 11.1%.

Even though the county’s rate more than doubled from 5.0% in March, Marion rose to the 14th-lowest unemployment rate among Mississippi’s 82 counties in April. It had been the 22nd-lowest in March.








Top HVAC student named

Hunter Courtney, a senior at Columbia Academy, was chosen as by his teacher, Elmer Blanchard, as the top second-year HVAC student at the Marion County Career and Technology Center. Hunter maintained a high “A” average throughout the school year and an excellent attendance record.

Red Bluff needs to be developed

We don’t judge the masses who have gathered at Red Bluff near Morgantown in recent days. After weeks of being cooped up at home, people need time outdoors for their mental and physical health.

The threat of spreading the coronavirus is far less outdoors than indoors because it can’t survive long outside.

Ratatouille, the movie about a French rat with a dream to be a chef, debuted in 2007. I watched the movie then, but was so immersed in my business than I failed to give it my full attention. I am so sorry that I did that. This past weekend I watched it three times. It is amazing! The attention to detail is incredible.
