BILOXI — The Columbian-Progress won 25 awards Saturday in the annual Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Mississippi Press Association.
That included six first places and second place in General Excellence among the state’s mid-sized weeklies.

The Columbia Board of Aldermen approved a new countywide training facility for firefighters at the Marion County BusinessPlex Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Lyle Berard of the Columbia Fire Department requested that the city contribute up to $5,000 toward the project, which aldermen did.
UPDATE: The Sheriff's Office said Janekqua Henry, the victim's girlfriend, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. She's being held at the Marion County Jail.
