Looking Back: Contributions needed after fire destroys dormitory

Brooms win top yard for July

Katie Broom and her family at 1402 Broad St. are honored to be the recipients of the July Yard of the Month.

“It’s an honor because I do take pride in my yard,” Broom said. “I’ve done everything myself, and I love to keep a neat yard.”

Broom added it was an unexpected honor, and she appreciates being chosen.

County schools close year

A brief meeting was held Monday night to close out the fiscal year for the Marion County School District School Board.

The board approved the following resignations:

• Casey Sullivan Taylor as assistant state literacy coordinator;

• Melissa Taylor as West Marion High School counselor.


Murals part of Freedom Fest

Murals will be popping up all around town as Columbia prepares to make a positive impression at Freedom Fest.

Local artists are coming together to paint on walls all around downtown.

“It is an incredible opportunity for us,” Nik Ingram, director of Main Street Columbia, said. “We have a wonderful art community here.”
