Organizers hope to draw 10,000 downtown July 6

Freedom Fest is fast approaching, and organizers hope to draw 10,000 people downtown for live music, arts and crafts vendors, fireworks and more.

July 6 is the date set aside to celebrate the country’s birthday and Columbia’s bicentennial.

Hill hosts missionary at Capitol

Jorgejill S. Duyaguit, pastor and director at Faithway Baptist Institute in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, the Philippines, visited the state Capitol on Friday with his wife, Lyn, and son, Kneel. For the first time they met their longtime Facebook friend, State Sen. Angela Burks Hill, in the Senate chamber.
