Circuit Judge Tony Mozingo dismissed charges filed by real estate broker Richard Lokey against two Columbia police officers Friday, and the judge reprimanded Lokey for wasting the court’s resources and provoking the incidents with the officers.
Columbia and West Marion blew out their opening opponents of 2019 Friday night, while Columbia Academy lost a hard-fought rivalry contest on the road.
East Marion also got off to a positive start, downing Amite County on the road.

One arrest has been made so far with more arrests expected in a July 12 shooting on Rural Center Lane.
Usher Jackson, 19, of Columbia, was charged recently with aggravated assault related to the incident at a party outside the New Zion Methodist Church Activity Center.

The Marion County Correctional Facility has slashed $300,000 from its proposed budget as the county works on putting together a plan for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.
Warden Derek Mingo presented the revised budget Monday morning at the Board of Supervisors meeting.
