Both CA hoop teams advance; 4 play tonight

Both the Columbia Academy boys team and the girls team advanced to the south state semifinals Wednesdays with victories over Tri-County Academy. 

The Cougars (30-2) dominated Tri-County 55-16 with Tate Duncan leading the way with 16 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. The Cougars will play Riverfield Academy Friday night at 7:45 with a trip to the south state championship on the line. 

The Lady Cougars (15-20) had a harder time with Tri-County but still pulled away for a convincing 51-36 victory. Both Peyton McCain and Presley Dease had double-doubles while scoring 15 points apiece. The Lady Cougars will take on Bowling Green Friday night at 5:15 in the semifinals. 

There will be four teams in action today, beginning with the Columbia Lady Wildcats taking on Jeff Davis County at 4 p.m. in the Region 8-3A semifinals. The Wildcats are also in the semifinals and will play Tylertown at 8:30 at Columbia. The East Marion Eagles are taking on North Forrest at 5:30 at Collins in the Region 8-2A semifinals, while the Lady Eagles face St. Patrick at Collins at 7.
