Effective immediately, visitors to the Marion County Courthouse must call the office they are needing to receive instructions on how they can be served without having to enter the courthouse.
Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan, Chancery Clerk Elisha Moree and Tax Assessor/Collector Teresa Terrell jointly announced the change this morning.
They said it was part of "our continuing effort to serve Marion County citizens while keeping them and our employees safe in response to COVID-19."
Previously calling ahead had only been recommended, but the courthouse had continued to receive a large number of in-person visitors, making it difficult to keep the building properly sanitized.
The options for conducting business may include phone, email, drop box or mail service. Only the west door (handicapped ramp) entrance will be used for drop off.
"We thank you for your assistance and cooperation as we all work together to keep Marion County citizens safe," the three officials said.
