Info sought on shooting

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help for information about a large private party Friday night that ended with three injured by gunfire.

The incident occurred after 11 p.m. outside the activity center of New Zion United Methodist Church on Rural Center Lane, which is off of Mississippi 13 south of Columbia.

Greetings to all the fine folks of Columbia and Marion County. I sincerely hope everyone enjoyed a safe and blessed Thanksgiving. I would like share a personal opinion on a certain topic that I hope will enlighten everyone in America as well as give our community an opportunity to get on the map so to speak.




Simply spectacular

Record crowds estimated at between 8,000 and 10,000 lined the streets for Saturday’s Kiwanis Club of Columbia Christmas Parade followed by a light show and fireworks.

The parade featured a little bit of everything, from marching bands to the Honey Island Clydesdales and dozens of floats from local schools, churches and businesses.

Board smart on sales tax

For too long the state and federal governments have either cut spending to local governments or required new spending without allocating any funds for it. That allows politicians at those higher-up levels to brag on themselves without having to bite the bullet and face the on-the-ground consequences.
