County seeks bids on bonds

Marion County will begin seeking terms and rates for bonds to fund $5 million in bridge and road repairs.

Bond Attorney Warren Greenlee spoke with supervisors Monday during their regular meeting. The board plans to borrow the money and pay it back with newly allocated internet sales tax revenue.

Heritage Fest set for Saturday

The 53rd annual Heritage Festival will bring thousands of visitors to City Park Saturday.

The Marion County Historical Society expects a crowd of more than 4,000 to attend from all over Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. The event will feature more than 60 vendor booths along with lots of food and entertainment.

For too long the state and federal governments have either cut spending to local governments or required new spending without allocating any funds for it. That allows politicians at those higher-up levels to brag on themselves without having to bite the bullet and face the on-the-ground consequences.
