A celebration of life was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station for Mary Sue McRae-Meador, 86, of College Station, Texas, who died on Friday, Jan. 27, at her residence. Rev. Jennifer Webber officiated at the service. A reception followed.
She was born on June 28, 1936, in Foxworth, the daughter of Walter Shelby Sr. and Anna Mae Thornhill Pittman. She graduated from high school with special distinction in 1954 and was active in basketball, track, homecoming and the editor of the Columbia Hi-Lights newspaper. She retired after many years in banking and real estate sales.
She was proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a loving caregiver to both of her husbands until their deaths. She enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, gardening, sewing, traveling, boating and watching football. Family and friends will remember her for her loving concern for all of humanity, her beautiful smile, giving heart, devoted love of family and her unerring faith in God. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Eldorado, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Shelby Sr. and Anna Mae Pittman; first husband, Will Wright McRae Jr.; second husband, Edward Franklin Meador; daughter, Sabrina Louise Savant; sister, Carolyn Roberson; brother, Benjamin Larue Pittman; and grandson, William Christopher Waltrip.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary McRae-Waltrip and Elizabeth Ann McRae; stepdaughter, Claudia Meador Stephens; stepsons, John “Rusty” Meador and Lynn Edward Meador; brothers, Walter Shelby Pittman Jr. and James Kenneth Pittman; sisters, Opha Louise Dyess and Janis Faye Mosley; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3: 5-6
