Dr. Francis Louis Miksa Jr.

80, Columbia

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Dr. Francis Louis Miksa Jr., 80, of Columbia, who died on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, in McComb.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1938, in Aurora, Ill., and became a professor of Library and Information Science, first at LSU Baton Rouge (1972) then at UT Austin (1984). He retired to Columbia in 2009, where he was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis L. Miksa Sr. and Frances Theresa Borovich Miksa; brother, Daniel Miksa of Aurora, Ill.; sisters, Francis Ann Adams of Racine, Wis., and Sandra Rylatt of Rockford, Ill., and son, Francis Louis Miksa III of Winter Spring, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Spohrer Miksa; son, Joel Miksa (Stacey) of Winter Springs; daughters, Elizabeth Miksa and Shawne Miksa, both of Denton, Texas; sisters, Gloria Jones, Elsie Sadler and Linda Wolf (Jim), all of Aurora, Hazel Kempton (Jim) of Lima, Ohio, and Bonnie Hiltenbrand of Montgomery, Ill.; brother, Ronald Miksa (Sherry) of Big Rock, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Allison, Michael, Kelsey, Shannon, Patrick, Nicholas, Ember, Emma, Jeremy and Nathaniel, and two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Clover.
