Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at New Hope Baptist Church in Foxworth for Grace S. Bedwell, 83, of Foxworth, who passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29 at her residence. Burial followed in Lott Cemetery in Foxworth. Dr. Tim Parker and Bro. Evan Sheridan officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She was born in 1934 to Etta Lee and “Jack” Spiers. In 1950, she met Louie D. Bedwell and according to her, “she knew she was going to marry him the first time she ever saw him.” On Feb. 18, 1950, they were married. They were married 67 years and had six children, Margaret, Louie Douglas, Barney Patrick, Debra, Deidre and Perry Joe. In 1958, Louie Douglas died from polio.
She worked at Pioneer until 1970, when she went home to stay with her children. After the children were older, she worked at Jack’s Sandwich Shop, and then in 1986 she was co-owner with her daughter of Debbie’s Sandwich Shop until she retired 10 years ago.
She loved her family and helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was most important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas “Jack” and Etta Spiers; husband of 67 years, Louie D. Bedwell; one son, Louie Douglas Bedwell; one brother, Thomas Spiers, and two sisters, Hilda Patterson and Wilda Lee Calhoun.
Survivors include her three daughters, Margaret Miller (Robert), Debra Eaton and Deidre Green (Mike); two sons, Barney Patrick Bedwell and Perry Joe Bedwell; one brother, Jackie Spiers; 15 grandchildren, Doug Miller (Heather), Jody Miller, Barney Bedwell, Sara Ahner, Emily Bedwell, Leann Green (Lorne), Crissy Kelly, Shaine Eaton, Amanda Edwards, Ashley Green (Erica), Anthony Green, Jessica Knight (Trace), Richard Nellis (Brandy), Jared Stogner and Zeak Miller; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Perry Joe Bedwell, Doug Miller, Jody Miller, Lorne Green, Robert Miller and David Miller.
