Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Shiloh Baptist Church for Hertis H. Boyles, 87, of Kokomo, who died on Monday, June 10 surrounded by his family. Burial will follow in Cowden, Ill. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of the services on Thursday, June 13 at Shiloh Baptist Church.
He was born in Kokomo and had been a resident of Illinois for 39 years before returning home 27 years ago. He was a member of Mathon Masonic Lodge No. 8 in Decatur, Ill., and a Shriner with Ansar Temple in Springfield, Ill. He was proud of being a rancher and loved his cattle. He will be remembered as a wonderful storyteller with a delightful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Cora Turner Boyles and Katie Andrews Boyles; son, Jim Boyles; two grandsons, John Waldrop and Eric Boyles; two sisters, Argie Burstein and Emma Lou Mullins; and one brother, Glen Boyles.
Survivors include his daughter, Joy Waldrop (John); son, Randy Boyles (Diane); four sisters, Margie Crosby, Virginia Nichols, Bessie Evans and Rachel May (Walter); four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family prefers memorials be made in his honor to Shiloh Baptist Church, 91 Shiloh Firetower Road, Foxworth, MS 39483.
