Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at North Columbia Baptist Church for James “Jimmy” L. Pittman, 82, of Columbia, who died on Monday, Jan. 21 at his residence. Burial followed in Foxworth Cemetery. Bro. Ralph Sanford officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1936, in Foxworth. He served as lead signal maintainer with the Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas City before returning to Marion County in 1981. He worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1999. He served his nation faithfully in the United States Army National Guard and he was an active member and deacon of North Columbia Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Bessie Pittman; infant daughter, Pamela Pittman, and son, Randal James Pittman.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patsy Pittman of Columbia; one daughter, Kim Brewer (Tim) of Mize; one daughter-in-law, Pam Tree (Ken) of Madison; two brothers, Jackie Pittman (Eleanor) of Hattiesburg and Charles Pittman of Foxworth; one sister, Martha Stokes (Henry) of Purvis, and three grandchildren, Carleigh Pittman and Nathan Pittman, both of Madison, and Cameron Brewer of Mize.
Pallbearers were Stan Burks, Bobby Halford, Bart Pittman, Chad Pittman, Jeff Pittman and Jud Pittman. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of North Columbia Baptist Church and members of the John Buckley Sunday School Class.
