Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at Improve Baptist Church for Jesse C. Tagert, 88, of Columbia, who died on Monday, Nov. 26 in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Ron Burch and Bro. Darel Daniels officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Improve Baptist Church.
As a long-time resident of Columbia, he served our nation for 21 faithful years in the United States Air Force. He was involved in the Berlin Airlift, Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked 17 years for the United States Postal Service. He was a faithful member of Improve Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lois Crawley Tagert; one daughter, Deborah Wenzler; one grandson, Daniel Tagert; three brothers, Carrol G. Tagert, Gale Tagert and Ernest Tagert, and two sisters, Dora Graham and Linda Tagert.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lula S. Tagert of Columbia; one son, Charles A. Tagert of Hemphill, Texas; one daughter, Lisa K. Simmons of Columbia; two brothers, Lonnie Tagert and Claude Tagert, both of Columbia; two sisters, Regina Patrick and Flora Rutland, both of Columbia, and two grandchildren, Trinity Tagert of Alexandria, La. and Charles Wyatt Simmons of Columbia.
Pallbearers were Andy Culliver, Ricky Culliver, Ronald Morgan Jr., Chris Morgan, Barry Powell and Ronald Stringer.
