Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 29, 2019, at Zion Ridge United Methodist Church of Columbia for Nevers Abram, who died Wednesday, June 19 at Forrest General Hospital. Burial followed in the Old Foxworth Cemetery in Hub. The Rev. Daniel Preston officiated at the services. Visitation was held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Zion Ridge United Methodist Church.
He was born Aug.23, 1932, to Tom and Frances Abram. He attended Globe Academy High School and Alcorn State University. He was employed at East Marion High School as a high school chemistry, biology and special education teacher. He retired in 1993 after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lou James Abram; his parents, Tom and Frances Abram; three grandchildren, Danesha Pittman, Linell Pittman Jr. and Jonovan Silas; and three brothers, Johnnie Abram, Samuel Abram and Elmo Abram. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Pittman (Linell); two sons Demetrius Abram (Yolanda) of Hattiesburg, and Carlos Abram of Columbia; one stepson, Ronald James (Jeanette); one niece whom he reared, Tinesia Galloway (Ralph); three sisters, Reda Abram (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Clementine Youngblood (Natchez) and Natha Butler of Columbia; four grandchildren, Linette Silas (Jonathan) and Tatyana Abram, both of Columbia,and Valerie and Ericka Abram, both of Hattiesburg; one great-grandson, Avan Mitchell of Hattiesburg; three step-grandchildren, Ronald, Shaquille and Deanne James, all of Columbia, and three great nieces who he reared, Adriana Otis (Colby) and Nevana McKenzie, both of Columbia and Ricketia McKenzie of Hattiesburg.
