Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Royce Goar, 88, of Columbia, who died on Thursday, May 2 in Columbia. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday, May 5 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzo and Lavadia Goar; four sisters, Carol Stringer, Jneal Brignac, Joyclyn Goar and Lureen Barber, and one brother, Charles Goar.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Charlene Goar of Columbia; one son, Royce Goar (Brenda) of Columbia; two grandchildren, Beth Polk (Chance) and Amanda Cubley (David), all of Columbia, and two great-grandchildren, Carlie Fortenberry and Ava Cubley, both of Columbia.
Pallbearers were Chance Polk, David Cubley, Lonnie Stringer, Robert Knight, Ricky Lewis and Charles Kelly Barber. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Hugh Dickens Sunday School Class.
