From the bagpipes to the presentation of flags and roses, Thursday’s Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony was a touching tribute to the eight men who have died in the line of duty in Marion County.
It’s a reminder that the business of keeping the public safe involves putting yourself in danger. The nice crowd on the courthouse lawn reflects the appreciation that residents here have of that sacrifice on their behalf. Perhaps few other communities have lost so many officers in the line duty, but also few places have an annual remembrance for those men who laid their lives on the line. It’s a great tradition that shows the area’s values.
