It’s been a long journey for West Marion alum Colby White, but the hard-throwing Mississippi State righty is about to get his chance to reach the biggest stage in baseball.
The Tampa Bay Rays selected him in the sixth round of the MLB draft June 4, and White said he had been dreaming about that moment since he was kid.
West Marion’s Shelby Terrell ushered in a new era of Trojans baseball and led the program to two south state championship appearances. Now the graduate has several more awards to add to his resume as both The Columbian-Progress Most Valuable Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

Now the players are being recognized for their contributions on the diamond, and 15 were named to all-state or all-district teams.
