Marion County proved to be brimming with prep baseball talent once again with three teams making the playoffs, including West Marion making it to south state.
Now the players are being recognized for their contributions on the diamond, and 15 were named to all-state or all-district teams.
The West Marion Trojans needed all three games to get past district foe Wesson in the third round of the Class 3A playoffs, but they got the job done Saturday at home to advance to their third-ever South State championship series.
All season long West Marion has ridden the dominant right arms of just two starters, Shelby Terrell and Jayden Duncan. In the deciding Game 3 Monday night against their kryptonite St. Andrew’s, the Trojans needed a third pitcher to step up with both of their top pitchers not available because of pitch limits.
