Hattiesburg—Extra Table will launch March of the Mayors (a statewide food drive), on January 21, 2025. March of the Mayors is a statewide canned-food drive, driven by the mayors of cities across Mississippi to collect food items to support their local pantries. Broken into five regions (The Coast, the Pine Belt, the Jackson Metro area, the Mississippi Delta, and the Tupelo/NEMS area), each city will collect a particular food item.
Collection begins on January 21 and goes through February 21. These four weeks are key to success for the community-wide packing party! Food collected and packed by regions will support the local food pantries of each participating city. Additional information to come in late February regarding the packing events.
“No family should go without a healthy meal on their table,” said Freddie Triplett, Senior Business Development Representative for Spire Mississippi. “We are proud to celebrate Extra Table’s fifteenth year in feeding Mississippians and know that partnering with Extra Table for this annual food drive leaves a lasting impression and makes a real difference for families in our communities and many others across the state.”
Spire Energy is the regional sponsor for the Pine Belt March of the Mayors, which includes the following participating cities (listed beside the city name is the food item):
- Collins (Spaghetti noodles)
- Columbia (Dried beans – 1 lb. bag)
- Ellisville (Granola bars)
- Hattiesburg (Peanut butter – 16 oz. jar)
- Laurel (Canned tuna)
- Lumberton (Canned fruit)
- Magee (Spaghetti noodles)
- Petal (Canned fruit)

March of the Mayors is a fun way to help engage the local community while fighting hunger in our own backyards. March of the Mayors puts a unique twist on Mardi Gras celebrations and a canned food drive all-in-one!
