A woman is behind bars at the Marion County Jail after stabbing a woman she was arguing with in the forehead with a screwdriver on Sunday. The victim suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital.
Just before noon, Columbia Police was dispatched to Colonial Inn on Mississippi 13 N. for a disturbance between two females with potential injuries.
Upon arrival, police learned the encounter turned physical when Susan Sutherland Ahrens, 39, of Daphne, Ala., allegedly stabbed the other female in the forehead with a screwdriver.
The screwdriver went through the skin but did not penetrate through the bone. The victim was transported to the emergency room for medical treatment and was released later that afternoon.
Sutherland Ahrens was charged with aggravated assault: use of a deadly weapon, and her bond was set at $20,000.
As of press time Tuesday evening, she remained in custody at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility.
CPD Capt. of Investigations Chris Brumfield explained that the statute for aggravated assault states that if an assault could produce a severe injury of death, it qualifies as aggravated assault as opposed to simple assault.
