A Jasper County man faces charges after he and a juvenile attempted to throw contraband over the fence into the Marion County Jail on Thursday.
Henry Hamilton, 26, of Bay Springs, was arrested Thursday and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and introduction/possession of contraband in a correctional facility.
Allegedly, Hamilton was the driver of a white car that pulled up to the facility when contraband consisting of narcotics, cellphones and tobacco were tossed over the fence. The suspect who threw the contraband over the fence fled from the correctional officers on duty, and jumped into the car as it sped off, heading north on Main Street. Members of the Marion County Sheriff’s office stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Main and Church Streets.
The sheriff’s office then arrested the unnamed juvenile and Hamilton.
Major Zack Guidroz, with the Marion County Jail, said the correctional officers confiscate a lot of contraband from individuals throwing it over the fence.
Guidroz wanted to thank the correctional officers, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbia Police Department and the Marion County constables for all of their assistance.
