I am Sebronette Barnes-Aborom and I would like to introduce myself as a candidate for the Marion County School Board of Trustees, District 3.
I am a 1975 graduate of West Marion High School. I hold four degrees in music, including a bachelor’s in music education from Jackson State University and a doctorate in music education from The Ohio State University.
My interests in education and the continuous improvement of student outcomes are not only sincere but proven. I am a second-generation educator, with 30 years of teaching experience (piano and voice along with being a choir director) at private and public schools and universities. I have served on boards and committees where I gained firsthand experience tending to the planning, executing and evaluating of the needs of students.
In 2010, I married my high school sweetheart, Emerson, and we have a blended family of two daughters, a son-in-law and four grandchildren. I am a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Foxworth and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Xi Mu Omega Chapter in Columbia.
As a performer, my voice has been heard on opera, concert and recital stages throughout the United States and Europe. The voice of my campaign is not driven by a political agenda, but by service and a desire to address these three areas of urgency: academic excellence so our students will be able to compete in an ever-changing global arena; overall wellbeing of not only our students, but parents, faculty and staff; and school safety.
When you vote, I hope you will indeed vote for me, Sebronette Barnes-Aborom, A Voice for The Children. Thank you in advance for your support! -
