An exhibit of a new group of photographs from the B.B. Bradley Collection has recently opened and will remain through the end of July. These 250 images are being displayed along with approximately 700 previously exhibited images over the last several years. The photos span four decades beginning in the 1940s.
B.B. Bradley was the photo editor of The Columbian-Progress for years. His collection of thousands of negatives has given Marion County an amazing documentation of life in Columbia and the surrounding county communities. Visitors recognize family members, friends and often themselves in these historic images. Subjects include parades, sports, organizations, school events, accidents, businesses and buildings.
Bradley also photographed early printed images from the 1900s with his large format camera, thus preserving an even earlier history.
The Marion County Historical Society is so very thankful to the B.B. Bradley family for giving us this historical collection of negatives to keep for posterity.
The Marion County Museum & Archives is FREE to the public. It is located at 200 Second St., at the west end of the street across from City Hall.
The new hours for 2024 are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
