The Columbian-Progress staff excelled in both the advertising and editorial divisions of the 2024 Mississippi Press Association Better Newspaper Contest, winning five first-place awards and placing in 10 other categories.
Graphic Designer Avery Lockwood, left, won first place for best theme page and best digital ad and additionally swept the digital ad category (first, second and third). She also placed for best editorial special edition, small space and service ads.
Sports Editor Jackson Howell won first place for best sports column (all weeklies) and best game story. He also placed for best sports action photo and best sports feature.
Publisher Joshua Campbell won first place for best breaking news story. He also placed for best headline and best spot news story.
The C-P also placed in the special section category for its annual Football Magazine.
