The Columbian-Progress was a big winner Saturday at the Mississippi Press Association Better Newspaper Contest awards ceremony, winning eight awards for its strong efforts in 2022.
The Better Newspaper Contest is an annual event that pits the best of the best in Mississippi journalism against each other to see who comes out on top.
C-P Publisher Joshua Campbell led the way, claiming six total awards and two first-place finishes. He placed first in best General Interest Columnist and Headline. He also earned second place for Sports News Story, Spot News Photograph and Headline and third place in Spot News Story.
Former C-P Sports Editor Brad Crowe placed second in Sports Feature Photograph.
The Columbian-Progress staff collectively got third place in best Front Page.
“I am extremely proud of the staff’s effort in the 2022 Better Newspaper Contest,” Campbell said. “Our focus every day is solely on providing Marion County with up-to-date, quality news, and it’s always nice to be recognized for our hard work. However, we are hoping the haul will be larger for our 2023 contributions.”
