In a remarkable achievement, the Voices of Columbia High School has been selected as the 2025 Mississippi American Choral Directors Association (MSACDA) Performing Choir for the Contemporary & Commercial Concert at the upcoming MMEA/MSACDA Annual Conference.
This prestigious event will take place in Hattiesburg, MS, from November 20-22, 2025, on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. The selection marks a significant milestone for the school's choral program, highlighting the dedication and talent of its students and directors.
Under the guidance of directors Kimberly Walley and Mitchell Crawford, the choral programs at Columbia High School have consistently demonstrated a standard of excellence in the arts. This recognition as a performing choir is one of the highest honors a choral program can achieve in Mississippi, reflecting the hard work and passion that students and faculty alike have invested in their music education.
The choral program at Columbia High School is not just about singing; it is a vital part of the overall educational experience, providing students with numerous opportunities for personal growth, creativity, and collaboration. Music education fosters teamwork and discipline while allowing students to express themselves in profound ways. The Voices and the Golden Blues, another premier group at CHS, have not only excelled in competitions but have also become an integral part of the Columbia community, bringing joy and inspiration through their performances.
"We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition," said Kimberly Walley, Director of Choral Activities. "This opportunity showcases the talent and hard work of our students and strengthens our commitment to maintaining a high standard of excellence in our choral program."
Mitchell Crawford, Associate Choral Director, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the role of music in shaping students' lives. "Music is a powerful tool for education and personal development. It provides our students with unique outlets for expression and creativity, helping them to grow both as individuals and as members of our community."
The Voices of Columbia High School will join other elite choirs from across the state at the conference, where they will have the chance to perform, learn, and connect with fellow musicians. This event promises to be a celebration of musical talent and education, showcasing the best of what Mississippi has to offer.
As they prepare for this prestigious performance, the students of Columbia High School's Voices are not only representing their school but also their community, bringing pride to Columbia and setting a shining example for future generations of musicians.
