A man was stabbed in the back multiple times Sunday on Carolyn Avenue, leading to a police chase that included the suspect barricading himself inside a residence. Despite being stabbed multiple times, the victim has reportedly been released from the hospital, while the suspect is behind bars at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday, first responders were called to the scene of the stabbing at 1118 Carolyn Ave. When the Columbia Police Department arrived on scene, the suspect, later identified as Ronald Clark, 45, of Columbia, fled on an electric bicycle for several blocks before reaching a residence on Hendricks Street.
Clark allegedly ran into the house and locked the door, but police were able to gain entry and place him under arrest. The weapon was found discarded inside the home.
The CPD reported that Clark and the victim got into a physical altercation before Clark pulled out a switchblade and stabbed the victim four or five times in the mid to lower back. The CPD reported that it is unclear so far what started the altercation or why it escalated, but investigators reported the two men have known each other for most of their lives.
Clark was charged with aggravated assault: use of a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, resisting or obstructing arrest and disorderly conduct: failure to comply with commands from law enforcement.
His total bond was set at $32,000, and he remained in custody as of press time Monday. The investigation is ongoing.
