“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10 (NKJV)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13
We are experiencing a global pandemic that is threatening every nation, tribe, and people; poised to develop into one of the most destructive events in modern history, fueled by ignorance, greed, and deceit we are likely to experience it’s ill effects for decades. I am not talking about COVID 19, the latest virus that is plaguing our world. I am talking about the irrational fear that is gripping so many who should know better. It is normal for those who are unknowing to be afraid of the unknown; it is altogether different for Christians to be so terrified that they ignore God’s assurances.
Friends, the fear that has so quickly invaded our thoughts and actions is not from God; coming straight from the evil one it is intended to bring division into our world, and cause confusion among the brethren (of Christ). This is an all out attack against the Church, yes, the Church is being attacked by evil. Although this virus is affecting folks of all beliefs (or lack thereof) it is first and foremost an onslaught against Christianity. Satan does not care whether or not unbelievers suffer, he already has them; his goal is to disrupt the Church and weaken our faith in God’s sovereignty.
What are we Christians to do? First of all we need to “be still” and remember Who God is, stop focusing on the negative and concentrate on Him Who is all positive. His own words declare that He will be victorious (exalted) among all nations and even in the earth. No virus or any other attack of Satan can unseat God from His throne; fear might cause many to behave irrationally but it will have no affect on the Almighty. So we pray, practice good healthcare routines, common sense, and “having done all, to stand”.
