If there was ever a concept that the Church needs to understand, especially during this time of crisis, it is that God has promised to never leave us not forsake us. From God’s promise to Jacob in Genesis 28:15, to Hebrew’s 13:5, we have been told many times that He will always be with us. It is so that God draws near to those who draw near to Him (James 4:8) and that He will be found by those who search for Him with their whole heart (Jeremiah 29:13).
If we are to take these verses at face value, then God is with us today wherever we go, and we may experience His presence through a heart devoted to seeking Him. Circumstances do not affect God’s sovereignty; He is still omnipresent regardless of worldly affairs or troubles. This being the case, then should we not as Christians, walk with boldness in the knowledge that where ever we go God is there?
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)
What we need today is not for God to show us Himself; what we need is to walk in the certainty that He is always here. To not trust that God is with us because we can’t see His hand at work; is to fail to trust God’s word to us. I’m reminded of Elisha’s servant in 2 Kings 6:15-17 who was afraid because of the Syrian army surrounding their camp. When Elisha prayed the servant’s eyes were opened and he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Friends what we desperately need today; not to make light of the situation, or the necessity of common sense and personal hygiene; are men and women who have the eyes of Elisha, able to see the hills full of horses and chariots of fire behind this enemy; men and women who are prepared in the fullest sense of the word to engage the unseen enemy with eyes wide open, fully aware of God’s presence. Like the hills full of horses and chariots of fire, He’s been here all along!.
