Sela Marie was born to David and Laura Anderson on March 14, 2014, and was diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia at only 20 weeks in-utero. She spent just 23 days with family and friends but touched an immeasurable number of people during her time.
The footprints on the flyers around town and the annual race shirts are her very own and represent the imprint she made in people’s lives.
The Andersons strive to raise CDH awareness in their daughter's memory and have used the 5K race opportunity to do so for seven years now. They are always humbled and grateful for all of the support they receive from their wonderful family, friends and community. In 2021, they raised $14,000 and to date, have raised more than $86,400 in her memory.
The proceeds are given to Batson Children's Hospital where she was cared for, a CDH charity and other local families in need.
The Andersons look forward to all of their upcoming events to continue raising CDH awareness. The Celebrate Sela 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run will be on Saturday, March 12 at Friendship Park in Columbia, and the Rummage Sale will be held at Kane's Catfish, Seafood, and Steakhouse on April 2.
