The Marion County Historical Society’s Heritage Festival is returning to Columbia for its 59th year on Oct. 5 and will feature an array of entertainment, vendors and food trucks.
Heritage Fest will begin at 9 a.m. and will be open to the public all day until 5 p.m.
Lori Watts said the historical society is expecting this year’s Heritage Fest to be the best since before the pandemic and encourages Marion Countians to come out for a day filled with fun.
“During Covid, 2020 and 2021 were challenging years. We were building back in 2022, and the 2023 event was larger,” Watts said. “We hope to have more booths again. We have (vendors) who have had their booth in (Heritage Fest) for many years, so coming out to support people as well as the historic society is important. This is our big, main fundraiser, and the more people who come out to participate, the more we are able to do for the museum and our work at the John Ford Home.”
While the historical society is still confirming most of its entertainers, Watts said the Mississippi Choctaw Dancers will be back for this year’s Heritage Fest.
The historical society has applications for booths and food vendors still available. The early registration deadline is Sept. 1, and no applications will be accepted after Sept. 20. Interested parties can find the applications on the historical society’s Facebook or by emailing marioncountyhist@yahoo.com.
